Blurb:
Avery Kline relocates her entire life from her hometown of East Tawas, Michigan to Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite going through a tumultuous breakup, Avery is open to putting her heart back on the line when she meets the apartment pool's security guard, Kyle Kingsley.
Kyle is no stranger to female attention as all the residents seem to gravitate towards him, but he has a rule against dating girls who live at the complex. This disappoints Avery, but doesn't discourage her from pursuing him anyway. She believes that once Kyle gets to know the real her, she will be able to break his rule and make him fall in love with her.
Avery is relentless in her mission to capture Kyle's heart, but his feelings against dating residents may be more of a warning than a rule. Their differing values cause friction among their friendship until one of them prevails
Will Avery be able to win Kyle over, or will his dark past leave them both heartbroken?
Thoughts while listening to the book (Disclaimer: This is my second time listening to it)
- Paige
- Fair enough Paige, Avery's bikini choice didn't meet your outfit vibes for the day but at least think about how she feels when she's with you. Sure, she might not openly admit it to you or anyone else that it feels like a competition for boy's attention.
- There's times where I liked her but oh my days, girl you're being petty and dramatic sometimes
- I completely agree with her on anything surrounding Kyle Kingsley, he's a selfish and self-centered jerk. (that's putting it lightly)
- Avery's Parents
- Avery, your parents are useless and selfish people. They win the lottery, dump you with an aunt that does not like children, like tf, be responsible parents and spoil your ONLY child. Take her on the trips with you.
- They made parenting seem like a huge responsibility and it is but people also think of it as a blessing, these people made it feel like she was a burden to them and they took the lottery winnings as their ticket out of her life. Also, who tf sends a monthly check to their daughter and photos of their trips, that's just lousy. Once in a while, bring her out to wherever they are to spend time with her. They thought money would solve her problems (sure it does for some) but she needed her parents.
- When her father gambled the 17 million away, wtf were you thinking and the AUDACITY of them to turn to Avery and beg her to let them stay with her till they get on their feet again (hell no). They abandoned her to go "live the rich" life, karma is quite the bitch isnt it.
- Kyle Kingsley
- wow... just wow. His descriptions is just 🔥💔(at the same time).
- He definitely gives off playboy vibes despite being reserved and fair he made a truce with her to stop the attention of other girls (his side) and for her to get 'talking to him' as her end of the bargain. I personally would tell him to f off and find another girl to do it or get a different job.
- "Kyle is no stranger to female attention as all the residents seem to gravitate towards him. " 🚩
- Finding another job doesn't seem hard Kyle, but then again it depends on whether he went to college and the specific qualifications he has.
- Also I agree with you Avery, that snake tattoo, just from the description, freaked the eff out of me is well.
- Personally that tattoo would be a red flag for me but then it would depend on the details of it and how intimidating it looks. (I'm more of a simple and minimalistic gal. Bigger tattoos look good on some people but if that tattoo takes up his full arm, then I'd be saying goodbye to him quicker than I started talking to him.) I'd only interact with him when entering the pool and that's all. If he approached me, I'd pretend to get up to go get a drink or pick up my book to read sending him clear signs (hopefully) that I have no interest in him.
- NARCISSISTIC & MANIPULATIVE
- Hannah
- The bubbly person that is Hannah, I can so vibe with. She's someone who'd make me more extraverted (Paige would do the same but I feel like I'd have more arguments/disagreements with her.)
- Hannah seems like an understanding person, she'd understand why I don't want to socialize and would respect that but would also recommend going for a fun time and she'd make sure I feel comfortable there.
- Chapter 11-13:
- Kyle Kinglsey is a 🚩and a MANIPULATOR
- Kyle's brother's girlfriends should have respected girl code checked on Avery, no matter how intoxicated they were
- Paige's speech about Kyle *chef's kiss*
- First Kyle's late to the "date", then he made Avery pay and changing his order from a medium to extra large. (everything about that is a no).
- How he casually brought up the 25 million to her in a public location would have made me run or make an excuse to leave.
- The fact he ignored her for the entire date is a huge 🚩
- Thank god, she came to her senses when he tried to take it further after the date, she needed to stand up for herself and thank god he left after it.
- Their "date" was completely pathetic and lame.
Chapter 14:
Kyle and her were done, thank god. I couldn't be happier to hear that (literally 😅)
I need more Avery & Hannah moments. Don't get me wrong I love the trio moments but Hannah definitely understands her more, despite Avery and Paige being friends for longer. Paige is definitely petty at times.
Cat themed party is pure Paige & Hannah but I feel like it's more Hannah's scene than Paige's. If it were me, I'd probably plan somewhat of a big event for her birthday with her closest friends and family, and just take pictures/selfies to remember the occasion.
Chapter 15
Hannah's intervention in Paige's and Avery's friendship was much needed.
Avery's "bachlorette" party is the best way to spend a girl's night (in my opinion)
Chapter 16:
Oh no, not the birthday pinches!? (Ouch)
Avery & Graham are just 🔥 (their banter is my favourite thing about their relationship)
Chapter 22:
Avery IS IN DENIAL
Chapter 23:
Kyle needed to take the hint to leave after he had nothing more to say. He did not need to help cook (even if she was struggling)
Avery should have waited till Graham rang and admitted defeat (against her will)
Why I chose Hannah over Paige
- The reason I chose Hannah over Paige is their personalities
Paige
- Paige is a nanny which I love that we have an interest in common
- She's also the girl to keep up to date with the latest trends (which I find cool and wouldn't judge anyone for it, but it's not for me.) I prefer comfort over trends unless it is 'comfy-trendy' aesthetic. Then I'd jump on that trend with her
- She's too extraverted and outgoing for me - I feel like she's someone who'd guilt trip me into going out with her or doing activities that she wants to do instead of listening to what I'd like to do.
- In the book, she definitely listens to Avery - which I'm being disrespectful to her character or the author's writing but that's my personal opinion of her.
- She judged Kyle too quickly based on his actions - which I'm backing to a certain point (the end of their 'relationship') but I'd be the person with an open mind about the 'boyfriend' and give them a chance. Paige shut down the 'giving a chance stage' way too fast.
Hannah
- Hannah I feel like is similar to Paige in some aspects but then she is the complete opposite of her at the same time (idk if that makes sense)
- Her bubbly attitude and mindset is something that I feel would put me in a good mood. I feel like she has a good aura (eww, can't believe I just said aura. Never thought I'd say/write that ever. P.S: I'm not a fan of that word if you couldn't tell 😅)
- I feel like she's more understanding than Paige would be and she gave Kyle a chance at the start until he changed... which I would do the exact same and that's why I feel like I can relate to her and match her personality in some ways.
- Hannah seems like an understanding person, she'd understand why I don't want to socialize and would respect that but would also recommend going for a fun time and she'd make sure I feel comfortable there.

Final Opinion/Comments:
I know this was my second time listening to this book, and I hate to say this about a reread but I was glad that when I finished listening to it, OMD Kyle Kingsley is UNBEARABLE and his personality traits are just 🤬🤬
Avery was pure delusional and had to leave Kyle when he first did her wrong.
But Miss Bailey Thomas, you outdid yourself for the first book that I listened to written by you.
Show her some love/support on her socials, which I have pasted the link below and will put her @ also below
